Sun Metals Zinc Refinery is located 15km south of the city of Townsville in North Queensland, Australia. The refinery produces a Special High Grade of Zinc metals which meet stringent quality standards required under its registration at the London Metal Exchange. Sulphuric acid, Low grade zinc concentrate and copper cake as a secondary product, are produced and sold to the international and domestic market.

The Sun Metals site is uniquely located to take advantage of its proximity to the Southeast Asian market, abundant raw materials, and skilled labour. Raw materials are sourced from mines in Australia, Alaska and South America.

Vertech’s Tank testing team in Queensland were engaged to complete API storage tank inspections on several above ground storage tanks along with some other process systems. The principal scope included detailed inspections of the sulphuric acid drying tower which is critical to production with a number of findings not previously identified that enables the client to put in place proactive repair and maintenance plans to ensure tis critical asset continues to function
